Chestnuthill Township needs to do something about the Fireworks Noise

CHESTNUTHILL TOWNSHIP: As most people within the township we have had to put up with the Noise from Fireworks over this past Fourth of July week, but tonight we have had enough.

One of our neighbors that is a Former Chestnuthill Township Roadmaster just will not stop setting them off even though they know people have jobs and need to sleep. Starting just after 9 pm and continuing while we are typing this he is setting off very Loud Fireworks.

He knows the State Police will not enforce noise complaints unless it is after midnight so he continues to do it.

Chestnuthill Township needs to set some enforceable rules regarding Fireworks like other townships in Monroe County have done with restrictions only on the day of a Holiday and not on many days following a holiday like what goes on around the 4th of July. Fireworks should also not be allowed within 150 feet of a residence nor by anyone that is under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. One step further would be to require anyone who plans to use fireworks has to get a permit from the Townships Fire Department so they can see where they will be used.

My wife who was asleep because she has to get up at 5 am for work is now wake and will probably be very tired in the morning and this has to stop and people need to be held accountable even if they are former employees of the township.

We are sure there are many in the township that have the same horror story regarding Fireworks and something really needs to be done about it.

We are not against Fireworks, we put up with them the whole week, it's only the ones being shot off on a Sunday evening when people are trying to sleep because they have to go to work on Monday. A little common courtesy and respect for others is all we ask.

I totally agree, there is no regard for people that have to get up early for work. Why do the same people need to light up fireworks every night! Not to mention the poor animals that are so frightened of the noise. I for one am tired of it, something needs to be done.

I completely agree!! This is like night 4 I can’t go to sleep Bc of them. I have a dog with anxiety that is suffering and a baby who gets woken up by them and my dog pacing back and forth. Where are people’s consideration?!! We’ve found several fireworks in our yard. Not only is it annoying and inconsiderate but it’s completely unsafe!

Fireworks should be allowed up to a certain time. There is nothing wrong with celebrating different occasions. Just a heads up, we are lighting some up this weekend. Only a couple. So make sure you have your ear plugs.

Well I live in Eldred township near Kunkletown and I have a neighbor who lives right in back of me who every weekend both Saturday and Sunday feels compelled to fire hundreds of rounds of firearms ammunition for hours throughout the days. It’s very annoying and very loud. I would just like to sit outside and enjoy some peace and quiet time listening to music and talking with friends but that’s not possible when you have to listen to some idiot with a large caliber semiautomatic rifle firing off 30 rounds as fast as he can pull the trigger and then throwing in another clip and repeating. There are legal places to go and do this. Point is that municipality need to have regulations for noise and nuisance and they need to enforce them.

so agree, we had someone setting off “cherry bombs” for hours after on Sunday night. We are in E. Stroudsburg Boro and it doesn’t matter. These were going off after midnight, but with 20 min. inbetween so each time you thoght it was the last. Why do people have to be so uncaring of others?

You can’t laws that supersede state law. Does not work that way. Why don’t you outlaw hunting at 6am on turkey day. You just have an inconsiderate neighbor. Why do you want to punish everyone?

    • TB says:

Actually, local municipalities can enact stricter laws than the state. They can ban fireworks and regulate alcohol sales as long as they are not more lenuent than state law. Private developments can do the same.

      Sorry. It is true.

Welp all I can say is if ya don’t like it instead of complaining online go talk to the neighbor. I am sure he or she would be reasonable if he or she knew it bothered you.

It Was 5 nights of B/S for our neighborhood. There is no consideration for others at all. We are not opposed to the evening of the 4th as long as it is done safely and with no fire risk which is difficult living here. The township needs to address this.

    I agree 💯

Although, I love fireworks and agree that the hours and amount of days in which they are being used is crazy. I mean I have 3 kids who literally spend their nights crying because of these fireworks but We should also all stop and think about the men and women who have fought for this country that we are celebrating and remember that more than 90 percent of veterans suffer from PTSD and these veterans and even active military members spend a lot of Tim sitting in rooms with loud music or in the shower to try to mask the noise of the fireworks because they have flashbacks of the war they have encountered. So let us not just think of those of us who have kids who cant sleep or those who have to be up early but also those who really cant handle the fireworks because it reminds them of what they saw, what they lost or what they had to do to provide us with the freed ok m to even use fireworks.

Agreed. It is people’s ignorance and total lack of care for another that makes it a miserable holiday for most because of fireworks. There should be an ordinance that specifically outlines time frame for how long the hell continues, and the type of fireworks being used. Residents should be required to obtain permits, just like its required for yard sales or installing a pool in your back yard. It should be a county ordinance, not up to the local politics., which we all know are skewed. Having to hose down your roof because fireworks are falling on it, cleaning up firework debris from your yard and pool that you didn’t make, holding your dog on your lap because they’re terrified, and being up to well past 10-11 PM when you have to get up at 5 am the next day for work is just wrong. I just dont know what’s wrong with these people.

4 of July landed on a Thursday this year witch force’s people to celebrate on Friday Saturday but beyond those days it is not cool. It should never go passed 11 o’clock and it’s only this time of year. People on both sides need to think about each other’s feelings.

Besides fireworks we have other noise problems. They are now operating 2 air b nb’s on our street! They have closed up garages to make additional bedrooms.one advertise 16 people can sleep there for$899 a night. These are large groups of young people renting party houses. Both have outdoor pools with music blasting like Las Vegas! Why are they even allowed to operate in a residential area? Come to the zoning board meeting on Tuesday July 16 at 7pm at Chestnuthill Township building. Time for US to make some noise!
