David H Haywood Found Guilty on All Counts

STROUDSBURG - On November 14, 2017, David Hassan Ali Haywood, 31, of Monroe County, Pennsylvania, was found guilty of one count of Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin, one count of Possession of Heroin, one count of Possession of Marijuana and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The charges resulted from an incident which occurred on April 4, 2016, where police officers from the Pocono Township Police Department responded to a residence on Image Drive in Pocono Township for a domestic dispute. Upon arriving at the residence, the Officers detected the odor of marijuana on Haywood and within the residence in which Haywood had been exiting. He was also seen removing his clothes from the residence and was believed to be placing them in one of the vehicles parked at the home. He was detained pending a search of the residence and the vehicles. Following the search, Officers recovered 750 packets of heroin, packaged and ready for sale in the vehicle as well as 20 packets of heroin within the home. The investigation was led by Officer Earl Ackerman and Officer Christopher Gupko of the Pocono Township Police Department, with the assistance of Corporal Anthony Doblovasky of the Pennsylvania State Police and Corporal Doug Smith of the Pocono Township Police Department.

The Honorable Arthur L. Zulick, of the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas, presided over the one-day jury trial. Assistant District Attorney Christy Schlottman was the prosecutor on this case. After listening to one day of testimony and evidence, the jury deliberated for approximately one hour before delivering the verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2017, a pre-sentence investigation was ordered and Haywood has been remanded to the jail pending sentencing.

Prior to this conviction, on October 12, 2017, Haywood was also convicted of one count of Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin, 210 packets of heroin as well as Possession of Heroin and Drug Paraphernalia after a one-day jury trial before Judge Zulick. Those charges resulted from a traffic stop of Haywood's vehicle. The investigation was led by Trooper Leo Petrucci and Trooper Ian MacMillan of the Pennsylvania State Police- Stroudsburg Barracks.

The Monroe County District Attorney's Office is pleased with the results of both trials. The District Attorney's Office is committed to prosecuting heroin dealers in Monroe County, as the safety of the residents of Monroe County is of the utmost priority to the office as well as combatting the growing heroin epidemic. Haywood has several prior convictions for trafficking heroin in New Jersey. The District Attorney's Office will be seeking a significant sentence of incarceration in state prison against Haywood at the sentencing hearing.
