Fatal Accident 642 Fairgrounds Rd Gilbert – Rt 209 has Re-Opened

CHESTNUTHILL TOWNSHIP: 09:12 am West End Volunteer Fire Co, EMS and State Police were dispatched to a single vehicle MVA into a Tree with Entrapment at 642 Fairgrounds Rd in Gilbert. Upon arrival EMS confirmed Entrapment. We do know that one of the people in the vehicle passed away and we are waiting for the Press Release from the State Police.

UPDATE: We received the PA State Police Press Release and here are the details:

A 2000 Ford Focus driven by Mr. Lewis L Halstead (74) and a 2012 Ford Mustang driven by Nicholas P Giordano  were traveling south on Rt 209 when Mr. Halstead attempted to make a left turn on to Fairgrounds Rd when he was rear-ended by Mr. Giordano sending the Ford Focus south onto the lawn of 642 Fairgrounds Rd striking a fence before hitting a tree head-on causing disabling damage.

 Mr. Giordano's Mustang came to rest on the right shoulder of Rt 209 south with minor damages and he was not injured.

Mr. Lewis L Halstead was pinned under the steering wheel and dashboard and had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown to St. Luke's Bethlehem by St. Luke's Life Flight. Mr. Lewis L Halstead passenger Rose Halstead (68) was pronounced dead at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Halstead family and we hope Mr. Halstead has a speedy recovery.

UPDATE: 43-7 informed MCCC that Fairgrounds Rd will be closed until they are done at the scene, MCCC advised 43-7 that the Helicopter has a 19 min eta from Geisinger. 921hrs
 
UPDATE: 43-7 requested that the Helicopter be put in the air as per EMS. 43-7 advised that the landing zone will be at the American Legion. 0923hrs
 
UPDATE: 43-7 informed MCCC that Extraction is complete. 0930hrs
 
UPDATE: MCCC informed 43 Brush that Lifefight 3 has a 10 minute eta to the LZ. 0933hrs
 
UPDATE: LZ Command advised MCCC that Lifeflight 3 is on the ground. 0944hrs
 
UPDATE: LZ Command advised MCCC that Lifeflight 3 is in the air. 0957hrs
 
UPDATE: MCCC dispatched additional Station 43 Fire Police to the MVA for Traffic Control. 1041hrs
 
UPDATE: Station 35 was Dispatched for Traffic Control. 1049hrs
 
UPDATE: Station 35 responding to Rt 209 and Gilbert Rd to close Down Rt 209. 1055hrs
 
UPDATE: 43-7 informed MCCC that Rt 209 is Closed from Weir Lake Rd to Gilbert Rd until further Notice. 1106hrs
 
UPDATE: 43-7 advised MCCC that Rt 209 will be open in both directions, and Fairgrounds Rd will remain closed from Rt 209 to Legion Rd. 1428hrs
 
UPDATE: 35-9 advised MCCC that Station 35 is clear and available from the Road Closure. 1429hrs
UPDATE: 43-7 advised MCCC that Station 43 is clear and available and that all roadways are open. 1502hrs
