New Appointments and Promotions in the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney

On Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 detectives Wendy Bentzoni Serfass and Craig Vanlouvender appeared before President Judge Margherita Patti-Worthington for a swearing in ceremony. Wendy, a detective with the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney was promoted to Detective-Sergeant and Craig, recently retired as a Pennsylvania State Trooper, was appointed a Detective with the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney. District Attorney E. David Christine, Jr., presented the two with their credentials officially recognizing their appointments.

Wendy Bentzoni Serfass has been a detective with the Office of the DistrictAttorney since October 2006. She was originally hired to work under the Violence Against Women Act focusing on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. She is now assigned to Major Case Investigations including Homicide. Detective Serfass began her law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office in December 2001 after graduating from the Act II Sheriff Deputy Certification course at Penn State University. Prior to her appointment to the position of Deputy Sheriff, she had worked as a courthouse Security Officer with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office since July 1999. Prior to working for the Sheriff's Office, she was a Deputy Prothonotary with the Monroe County Prothonotary's Office since 1992. Overall, Detective Serfass has worked for the County of Monroe for over 25 years. She is married to Troy Serfass and together they have raised four (4) daughters, Shelby, Sierra, Madison, and Elena.

Craig Vanlouvender entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy on October 5, 1992, and graduated February 24, 1993. After graduating from the academy Craig was assigned to the patrol unit at Troop "N" Swiftwater, Monroe County. While assigned to the patrol unit Craig was tasked with patrol related functions including traffic enforcement, accident investigations and responding to and investigating criminal incidents. In 1995, Craig was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Swiftwater station which became the Stroudsburg station in 2017. As a criminal investigator Craig was tasked mainly with the investigation of serious criminal investigations including homicides, sexual assaults, death investigations, and burglaries. Craig remained at the Stroudsburg station as a criminal investigator until his retirement on April 21, 2018. Craig graduated from the University of Scranton in 1997 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

According to District Attorney Christine "Detective Vanlouvender had an exemplary career as a State Trooper and will be of great service to our citizens. Detective Sergeant Serfass has distinguished herself since she became a detective in 2006 and deserves to be named second-in-command of our Criminal Investigations Division".
