Power outage affects hundreds in Jackson and Pocono Townships

A transformer fire knocked out power to hundreds of customers in Jackson and Pocono townships Monday.

The fire was reported at 4:49 p.m. in the area of Route 715 and Possinger Road in Jackson Township. The Monroe County Control Center received no reports of any injuries.

As of 6:35 p.m., PPL listed 976 customers without power in the Tannersville and Scotrun areas of Pocono Township. The company said power should be restored to everyone by 8 p.m. Monday.

Customers affected included businesses along the Route 611 corridor in Tannersville and Scotrun. Weis Market on Route 611 lost power for about two hours, according to the staff there.

The Citgo gas station/convenience store at the corner of Route 715 and Route 611 was still out of power as of 7:45 p.m. Orange cones had been placed in front of the gas pumps to let motorists know the pumps weren’t working. This forced motorists to get gas at the next nearest stations with working pumps on Route 715 or farther north or south on 611, causing backups at those other stations.
