Press Release: Stabbing on Main Street in Stroudsburg on 07/27/2020

On Monday, July 27, 2020, at approximately 1:15 p.m. the Stroud Area Regional Police (SARP) Department was dispatched to the area of McDonald's on Main Street in the Borough of Stroudsburg for a report of two males fighting. It was reported that one of the males was stabbed multiple times and that the male suspect had walked off towards Canfield's Store. The suspect was described as a black male with no shirt on.

Upon arrival, police made contact with the victim in the parking lot of McDonald's. The victim was bleeding from the face and his shirt was covered in blood. He had two large lacerations to his face and a laceration to the back of his left arm.

The victim stated the following. He rode his bicycle to the 300 block area of Main Street, Stroudsburg, where he parked his bike to the rear of apartment buildings in that area. The victim went to McDonald's and then met his friend in the apartment building. A short time later, the victim walked outside to get his bicycle and noticed that it was missing. He began looking around for it and observed the defendant, later identified as Tobias Mitchell, exit the apartment building with the bicycle. Mitchell approached the victim and asked him is this your bike, and he replied, yes that's my bike. Mitchell then told the victim you're not getting your bike and "I'm going to f*****g murder you". Mitchell then attacked the victim with a razor knife, causing several lacerations to his face and body and was also punching the victim with his other, freehand. While Mitchell was stabbing, slashing, and punching the victim he kept yelling, "I'm going to f*****g murder you".

Mitchell then walked off towards Canfield's store. He was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

Tobias Mitchel, a 32-year-old black male from Stroudsburg, was subsequently charged with the following crimes:

· Criminal Attempt to Commit Homicide F1

· Aggravated Assault F1

· Aggravated Assault F2

· Recklessly Endangering Another Person M2

· Simple Assault M2 (2 counts)

Mitchell was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Brian Germano who set bail at $100,000.00.
