From the office of Senator Mario Scavello

ROUTE 33 UPDATE: We have received calls at my office regarding the rough section of pavement on Route 33 just over the bridge at the Lehighton/209 exit.

The base has crumbled in this portion of road and PennDOT has been making repairs weekly.

A new layer of asphalt was put down yesterday and a permanent repair is planned within the next two weeks. In the meantime, please exercise caution when traveling this section of road.

What about the northbound side, same area? It is better but before long it’s going to be exactly the same….

That is a typical political statement made by Scavello’s office, this is not a “rough section” it was under construction without any signs. What I want to know is how this helps my son who had a motorcycle accident on a stretch of highway that none/zero construction signs of “Uneven Pavement Ahead”? Why was it that he had his accident at approximately 1:00 on a Sunday and by 2:30 we have photos of PennDot there patching the potholes? Was it because the Pennsylvania State Police were there taking video as cars were crossing it? This more then “We have received calls”, people got hurt due to there were no warning signs. Once you crossed the concrete section of the bridge and saw the road was ground down and full of potholes it’s too late at that point. On a motorcycle it is like the bottom dropped out from under you.
