West End Food Pantry has Partnered with Second Harvest to offer SUNShine Boxes to Qualifying Seniors

The West End Food Pantry has Partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to offer SUNShine Boxes to Qualifying Seniors.

At the February 18th Food Distribution representatives from Second Harvest Food Bank will be on hand to Register Seniors 60 year old or older for the SUNShine Box program. Seniors can still pick up their normal West End Food Pantry items, the SUNShine Box is a Supplemental program to the West End food Pantry Distribution.

SUNShine Boxes are Second Harvest Food Bank's distribution of food through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), a federally-funded program that is designed to improve the health and nutrition of low-income senior citizens, postpartum mothers, and children. A supply of staple foods, provided by the USDA, are packed into boxes and distributed once a month to registered participants. The boxes contain cereal, juice, canned vegetables and fruit, evaporated milk, pasta, peanut butter, protein (beef, chicken, or tuna), and cheese.

To qualify you must be 60 years old or older and provide proof of income and ID, if you have a Caregiver, your Child or even Grand Children pick up food for you at the West End Food Pantry they can register you by bringing in your proof of income and your ID and they will be able to pick up your SUNShine Box for you if you qualify. The Table below shows the Maximum Income a household can have to qualify.

There are several distribution centers for the boxes in the area (PVEN is one of them). Seniors can only get 1 box so if they are registered elsewhere, they can either continue to get them there or can transfer to The West End Food Pantry if they choose.

Please Share this information online and to seniors that you know that may qualify.
