A Monroe County man is accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.

Charged is Donald Kemmerer, 30, of Effort.

The victim reported on April 5 being sexually assaulted by Kemmerer from July 2016 to January 2017 at a Bethlehem home. The girl told investigators Kemmerer took off her clothes and touched her genitals four times.

Kemmerer knew the victim, city police said.

Kemmerer on April 13 was interviewed by police, allegedly admitted to the crime and provided a written statement.

"I am deeply sorry for what I did. It will never happen again," Kemmerer allegedly wrote in the statement.

Court records indicate he was arrested in February 2009 and charged with possession of child pornography. Kemmerer currently is listed on the Megan's Law website.

Kemmerer is facing charges of aggravated indecent assault (four counts), indecent assault (four counts), corruption of minors (four counts) and child endangerment (four counts). He was arraigned Monday before District Judge Robert Hawke, who set bail at $250,000.

In lieu of bail, Kemmerer was taken to Northampton County Prison.
