Former Pocono Mountain Regional Police Corporal Charged with Sexual Assault of a Female DUI Suspect

During a press conference held at the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney's Criminal Investigation Division headquarters District Attorney E. David Christine, Jr. and Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Christopher Wagner announced the arrest of former Pocono Mountain Regional Police Corporal Steven Paul MERTZ for offenses relating to an encounter with an adult female driver which occurred on Wednesday, October 16th, 2019.

Mr. MERTZ has been charged with rape (1st degree felony), involuntary deviate sexual intercourse (1st degree felony), sexual assault (2nd degree felony), coercion (1st degree misdemeanor), aggravated indecent assault (2nd degree felony), indecent assault (1st degree misdemeanor), bribery (3rd degree felony), Obstruction (2nd degree misdemeanor), and official oppression (2nd degree misdemeanor) after compelling an adult female driver into performing sexual acts following her arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mertz was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Colleen Mancuso and placed in the Monroe County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail.
