There is a Head Lice Outbreak at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School Only, we have confirmed that with the Superintendents Office and they tell us that it is being handled at this time.

For those wondering what lice look like the above picture should help.

Before bringing your child to a hair salon, call them to make sure that they deal with head lice. Most do not.  We actually recommend taking your child to you family doctor for confirmation of head lice.

If you catch them early there are products out there like LiceFreee Spray. We have read that Dawn Blue Dish Soap also works, but we cannot confirm that.

Your comment to call salons as most do not handle lice is misleading. It is state law regulation that no one with lice or nits is to be treated in a salon. Parents can purchase lice treatment kits and treat lice at home. Not until all evidence of lice and nits are removed will they be allowed to be seen in a salon as this is considered a health risk of possible contamination.

thank you for being responsible and considerate enough to the families in your district, to give them notice about this, unlike Pocono Mountain, who thinks since this is “not life threatening” they are obligated to give families this information…head lice outbreaks might not be life threatening, but they are quite EXPENSIVE to eradicate, to the tune of at least $20 per child…for a family with more than one child, having head lice can be a serious financial burden. It’s best to be proactive and HONEST for the protection of all the kids and their families. I wish all the other districts were as good as you!
