Saylorsburg Man charged in gunfire incident

SAYLORSBURG − A man was charged Monday after allegedly firing a gun into the air and then using the gun to intimidate another man Sunday.

Sean Thomas Howard, 27, is charged with carrying a gun without a license and simple assault, along with a harassment citation. Howard was placed in Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail and is awaiting a district court hearing.

Shortly before 11:33 p.m. Sunday, Howard was at a cookout on Girard Avenue, near Saylors Lake, police learned. He left the cookout and returned to his own residence nearby on Tulip Lane, after which the cookout’s host heard about eight gunshots.

About 10 minutes later, Howard returned to the cookout host’s residence and knocked on the door, police learned.

The host opened the door and saw Howard pull a pistol out of his pants, police were told. Howard told the host to come outside, but the host shut the door in fear and called 911.

When state troopers later arrived at Howard’s home, he turned off all lights inside the house and refused to answer the door, police said. Troopers saw an unsecured dog standing by an open gate nearby.

When securing the dog, troopers saw eight 9 mm rounds on Howard’s property, police said. After about 45 minutes, Howard came to the front door and was taken into custody.

Troopers learned Howard at the time had no license to carry a concealed gun.
